Creating a Desktop Shortcut for your VPS’s RDC (Remote Desktop Connection)

When using Remote Desktop Connection to connect to your VPS, one option you have is to create a Desktop Shortcut that will have all your login information saved.

You can easily connect to your VPS just by double-clicking the shortcut—it's really convenient!

  1. The first step is to navigate to the built-in app for remote connections. To launch it, click on Start, search for Remote Desktop Connection, and click on it when it pops up

  1. Under Computer enter the IP Address of your VPS

  1. Click Show Options

  1. Under User name enter the username you use to connect to your VPS

  1. Make sure that Allow me to save credentials box is checked, so that the login information is saved with the Shortcut we are creating – this way you don’t have to keep entering the password every time you wish to connect to your server or VPS

  1. To create the Shortcut click Save As so we can choose the location where we want it saved, and the name of the Shortcut.

  1. For the location, choose Desktop on the left-hand panel. You can choose either "TradingVPS" or "MyVPS" as the name, but feel free to select any label that you find helpful for your Remote Desktop Connection shortcut.

  1. After you have chosen a Location and Name for your Shortcut click Save

  1. We need to connect to the VPS once to save the password. After saving the shortcut, please click on Connect.

  1. Enter the password – make sure this is the VPS password, not the password for the tradingvps.io portal account

  1. In case you skipped step 5, you’ll have another chance to save the credentials for future connections by checking Remember Me – if you checked the box in 5, Remember Me will already be preselected

  1. Press OK – this will connect you to the server

If you followed all the steps correctly, you should now have a saved shortcut on your Desktop (or any location you choose). Next time you want to connect to the VPS, simply double-click the shortcut you created.

When you connect for the first time using the shortcut, two dialog boxes may appear. To prevent them from showing up again in the future, check the box that says “Don’t ask me again on this computer,” then click "Connect" or "Yes" to access your VPS.

If you ever change your login credentials, such as your IP address, username, or password, you'll need to update the shortcut as well. To do this, simply repeat all the steps, but at steps 6, 7, and 8, make sure to select the existing saved shortcut and overwrite the saved file.
